Beneficially placed planets

Planets placed in exaltation, own or friendly signs and in angels from each other becomes mutually highly beneficial planets.  If such planets are placed in angels from the ascendant (Lagan) the combination becomes all the more powerful.  This is further accentuated if one of the planets is in the tenth house.  This gives rise to rajyoga.  Such planets, even if by nature antagonistic and malefic to each other, will work for each other.  Their association, aspect on each other or any other type of sambandha will not be taken to be adverse.  Their results would be experienced during the mutual major-periods sub periods and sub-sub periods of the planets.  However, as stated above the planets have to be placed in exaltation, own or friendly signs, otherwise the results will not be forthcoming as expected.

 

Results of Planets in different signs (Rasis)

The results set out for each planet in different signs are modified according to the nature and strength of the depositor.  If Saturn is placed in Aries and Mars, is exalted in Capricorn, results that Saturn is likely to give will not be so bad as in the case.  When Mars is in its sign of debilitation or in an inimical one.

 

Effects of combust planets

   A planet is taken to be COMBUST when it is very closed to the Sun.  a beneficial planet when combust becomes powerless is incapable of giving good results.  It may give some adverse results.  Its basic properties will suffer.  A combust malefic planet is likely to give worse than normal results.  Following are the degrees within which planets become combust when they come near the Sun: You must keep in mind the combust malefic degrees.

                                      I.      Mars                17

                                   II.      Mercury           13

                                 III.      Jupiter  11

                                IV.      Venus  9

                                   V.      Saturn  15

Generally the combustion of Mercury is not taken seriously since it is never farther than 28 degrees from the Sun.  The Moon does not become combust.

 

 

 

Vargotamma Planets

            A planet is said to be vargotamma if it is in the same sign in the Navansha chart as the sign in which it is placed in the birth chart.  If the planet is in a movable sign it will be vargotamma if it is in the first ninth part of the sing i.e, it is within 0 degree 0 minutes and 3 degrees 20 minutes in the sign.  For fixed signs, the planet will be vargotamma if ti is in the middle ninth part of the sign, between 13 deg 20 min and 16 deg 40 min and for common signs it will be vargotamma if it is in the last ninth part of the sign, between 25 deg 40 min and 30 deg 0 min.  The information regarding a vargotamma planet is tabulated as follows:

            A Vargptama planet is as powerful as a planet in its own sign.

 

Nature of Planets

            Following are the rules from determining the Nature of a planet for a particular Ascendat (Lagna).  The nature determined in this manner is also used for the determination of the nature of the sub-period and inter – period in a major – period:

(i)                 The owner of a triangular house – the first (for the purpose of ascertaining the nature of a planet the first house, which is both an angular and a triangular house, is taken as the latter), the fifth or the ninth house – is a beneficial planet.

House 1^st to Triangular

(ii)               The owner of an angular house will be neutral.  Its nature will depend upon the ownership of the other house it owns.  In case of a luminary, it will be neutral.  A naturally malefic planet, like Mars or Saturn, owning an angular house will not give adverse results.  A naturally beneficial planet, like Venus or some Jupiter, owning an angular house will not give favorable results, unless it also owns the first house, or some other good house.  The Moon and Mercury are by themselves naturally beneficial planets.  But if the Moon is waning and is within 72 degrees of the Sun, it will be a malefic planet.  A waxing Moon close to the Sun will also be weak.  Mercury, if influenced by a naturally malefic planet will be a malefic planet.

Angular Houses Fundamental Principle

·         A planet owning either the third, sixth, or eleventh house will be bad planet.  A planet owning two of the above three houses, will be a very bad planet.

·         A planet owning the eighth house will be a malefic planet, unless it also owns the first house, and is placed in a house owned by it.  If the planet owning the eighth house is a luminary it will be neutral planet.

·         If a planet owns the second or twelfth house and another house, the nature of the planet will be determined according to the other house owned by the planet.  Since for the purpose of ascertaining the nature, the second and the twelfth houses are taken to be neutral.

·         A planet owning the second house will have the ability to terminate the life of the native when the longevity has come to an end.  Such a planet is called a maraca planet.  A naturally beneficial planet that owns the seventh house will be a maraca.  This does not hold true for a naturally malefic planet.

·         A maraka planet owning a triangle will first give good results in its period and may later and the life of the native.  Such a maraka may be termed a good maraka.

·         A planet owning an angle and a triangle (including the first house) will be an excellent planet for the chart and shall be capable of giving the very best results in its periods.

·         A planet that owns two houses, one of which is a good housed and the other an adverse house as above, shall be classified as good-but-impure planet.  It must be kept in mind that in this case if the mooltrikona sign of the planet falls in an adverse house, the planet will have more malefic tendency it.  If on the other hand, the mooltrikona sign falls in a good house, the planet will have more beneficial tendency.

·         The fifth and ninth houses are the primary houses that give wealth.  The seventh and tenth houses are givers of happiness – both for making as a business etc.

·         The houses of a category shall gain in strength with their distance from the ascendant.  Thus among the triangular houses, the ninth house is more powerful than the firth and the fifth is more powerful than the first.  Similarly, the eleventh house is more adverse than the sixth and the sixth is stronger than the third etc.

·         A planet owning a more powerful house will be able to overcome the influence of a planet owning a less powerful house.  Thus a good combination formed by the planet owning the fifth house can be disturbed by the owner of the eleventh house, but not by that of the third house.

·         When the owners of an angle and a triangle join, aspect each other or form a ‘sambandha’ (connection) between themselves in any laid down manner, the combination shall be highly beneficial for the native.

·         A neutral planet in ‘sambandha’ (connection) with a planet will take on the nature of the planet with which it is in sambandha.

(a)                A Node of the Moon will give results of the houses the planet with which it is in association owns.  The Node will also give results of the house it occupies.  The nature of the Node will be influenced by the nature of the planet with which it is associated.  If there is no association, the nature will be determined by the sign and asterism occupied by Node.

(b)               When the Node occupies a house it becomes the most powerful factor in giving the result of that house.  Therefore, occupation of an adverse house by the Node will make it an adverse planet for the chart.

(c)                The Node becomes an excellent planet when it occupies an angle and is associated with the owner of a triangle, or it is placed in a triangle and is associated with the owner of an angle.

The above are some of the golden principles in the art of predictive astrology.  Readers may please note that some of the principles may not work at all in modern times and in case of doubt on any point, may refer to other classics.

The Swastika

Lotus
Signifying great knowledge and good fortune, the Lotus stands for grace and beauty. It is closely associated with Goddess Lakshami and denotes wealth and luck. This auspicious flower is used during worship and other auspicious occasions.

Elephant
Elephant inter-alia represent Lord Ganesha. In Hindu mythology, elephants were considered white in color, possessing wings. They are auspicious symbols of wealth. Nowadays, idols of decorated elephants adorn the homes and offices to bring in perpetual luck and wealth.

 

Wheel- Sudarshan Chakra

A wheel is a continuous circle depicting positive energy. Its constant movement signifies constant flow of wealth. Either it is drawn or hung on the main entrance door to invite good fortune. The wheel moving in clock-wise rotation is auspicious and lucky, whereas the wheel moving in anti-clockwise direction is associated

with evil and sorcery.

 

Cow
Cows symbolize wealth and are believed to enhance one’s riches through honorable means. Considered to be divine, the cows are worshipped reverently all over India. It will be very auspicious to start the day by feeding a little food to a cow. Feed especially on Wednesday with grass/green vegetables and on Thursday with ‘Chana Dal’ and ‘Gur’.

 

We spend our lives seeking meaningful relationships.  It is the core fulcrum of our lives.  Not wealth, fame or fortune.  If we were to dig deeper for the real motive behind any of these apparent preoccupations, we will see that they all stem for the desire to establish meaningful relationships.

Relationships are the active ingredient of every one’s existence.  For instance when Al Capone, the infamous mob boss of Chicago was asked for the reason of his long history of heinous crimes, his response.

“What crimes? I was just trying to help and protect my friends and families!” Alexander the Great’s quest for power was largely an attempt to establish a fulfilling relationship with his ambitious mother.  Even the “renounced sannyasi” living in isolation is attempting to establish a relationship with God.  It is the most important aspect of our existence and behooves closer scrutiny.    Relationships do not just exist.  They are experienced on a regular basis.  Physical proximity is not an essential component of all relationships.  Even the most physical of all types of relationships, namely conjugal relationships do not require physical intimacy to flourish.  They may dwindle even with physical intimacy or strengthen with separation.  In fact any type of relationship, be it parental friends etc, is not predicated on physical association.

Relationship involves only two people.  Two and only two distinct people.  Certainly, a person may develop relationships with an organization, a country or to mankind.  These are really derived relationship, based on aggregating a set of individual relationships.  For instance a foreigner’s relationship with a country is based on the interactions he has had with the people he met.  Some of these may be good, others not so pleasant.  The person weights, mixes and composites all these individual relationships and comes up with a derived relationship to the country.  But in essence, it is based on a series of individual, atomic relationships.
What makes relationships good or bad? Viable or untenable? Vibrant or insipid? In order to better understand the inner working of relationships let’s review the basic nature of a relationship.

Basic components of a Relationship

There is a natural, intrinsic depth in each and every relationship.  This is decided primarily by the characteristics of the two people involved.  Let’s call this the Relationship Channel”.  In order to better understand the components of a relationship,    it helps to visualize a relationship between two people as two set of uni-directional channels running between them.
Each of the channel, which we can call the ‘relationship channel”, represents the nature of the relationship from one person to another.  Please note that each of these are uni-directional, since a relationship simply flows from one person to another.  The reciprocal relationship will flow in its own characteristic channel.

A relationship is comprised of the following integral elements:
1.    The depth of the relationship channel.
2.    The composition of the relationship channel.
3.    The strength of the flow in the channel.
4.    Symmetry of the channels

Let us review each of these elements.

The depth of the relationship channel

Channel depths are predicted on the intrinsic nature of the people between whom they run.  In all cases, it is the interpersonal chemistry that decides the depth of the relationship channel.  Just as one cannot change his or her intrinsic nature, the depth of these channels cannot be changed.  It is best to acknowledge and accept this fact.  One may think that this is a rather fatalistic view.  What is the point of investing any effort when the relationships are as hard wired as one’s nature? Well, the same can be said of one’s intrinsic nature.  The Meyer Briggs (MBTT) personality indicator does not change over the life time of a person.  But that does not stop the discerning individual from improving himself.  This is because most of us use a small fraction of our inherent potential.  Acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses and then operating from this platform of knowledge provides tremendous opportunity improvements.

Similarly for relationships.  Even though the intrinsic nature of relationship we have with other people will never change, if we were to understand this nature better and work on this understanding then we can optimally experience all our relationships to their maximum potential.  We will also be able to avoid frustrations of unmet expectations that are the scourge of almost all our dealings with other people.

The composition of the relationship channel

The Relationship Channel also reflects the nature of the relationship.  That is the composition of the relationship.  This determines if a relationship is between friends, lovers, parent-child, enemies and casual acquaintances.  It is very important to acknowledge the composition of the relationship channel, since they define the intrinsic nature of the relationship, irrespective of whether the channel is deep or shallow.  For instance two people may share a casual flirtatious relationship indicating a shallow conjugal flow.  The composition of the flow could also be mixed over various mellows, but there will always be one predominating mellow that establishes the nature of the relationship.
The composition of the flow cannot change over time.  We see relationships evolve and get apparently re-defined, seemingly leading to altered channels.  For instance a boss may marry his secretary and there is a new compost ion of the channel flow concomitant to this re-defined relation.  However, this is typically a case of the true nature of the channel coming into focus.  With time and interactions the understanding of the nature of the relationship channel may evolve – but its intrinsic nature does not change.

The strength of the flow in the Channel

The third aspect of an operating relationship is the flow – or the active exchanges that nourish a relationship.  A deep channel is conducive to a strong flow and a shallow channel will allow a minimal flow.  So the relationship between good friends has the potential of being very strong and active – since the channel is deep and the flow can be strong.  However the relationships when the channel is shallow will not be able to accommodate a strong flow of interactions.  It is thus important to acknowledge that some relationships will always be superficial (shallow channels) and some deep because of the nature of the channel that is there.  One should not attempt a strong vibrant flow in a relationship with a shallow channel.  Conversely one should be aware that there is the potential of a strong relationship if the channel is deep.
Unlike the relationship channel, the relationship flow is a variable and can be consciously controlled or altered.  Strangers may meet, become good friends, eventually marry and later separate.  All these are due to the changes in the volume of the flow of relationship.  The flow of relationships is in our hands and we can decide on its intensity and composition.  However it is important to reiterate that the flow is subject to the limitations of the depth and nature of the channel, which never changes.

Symmetry of the Channels

Functional relationships need to be symmetrical.  This means that both the persons involved in the relationships invest commensurately into the relationship.  Otherwise the relationship is doomed to dwindle into a negligible flow over a period of time or worse become dysfunctional.
The obvious example of the need for this symmetry is in conjugal relationships where the common refrain is “do you love me as much as I do?”  This is not a rhetorical question but one based on strong primal instincts that fro a relationship to work there must by symmetry.  Symmetry does not mean that the stimulus-response is identical at both the ends.  Indeed that is not possible and in the interest of variety not even desirable.  Symmetry means that both the persons are willing to invest equally into the relationship.  So a wife may expect flattery from the husband and the husband may expect service.  As long as there is symmetry relationships will sustain.  The notion of the harmonious relationship is one in which there is symmetry.  If not then they will go through the expectation-frustration cycle and exist in turmoil and disharmony.
It is easy to observe the impact of lack of symmetry.  A husband who does not pay attention to his wife, a friend who only calls up only in need or a child who reciprocates love with coldness.  In all these cases, the relationship is doomed, irrespective of what the channel depth or flow is.
A relationship may be fraternal (friendly), conjugal (sexual), parental, servitude or neutral.  The flow should also be symmetrical in terms of the composition of the flow.  If a man regards a woman as a sister and she regards him as a lover, the relationship is obviously going to run into serious problems.  So the symmetry should not only be in terms of quantity but also quality.
Symmetry is to some extend in our hand.  We can work at our end of the relationship to establish symmetry or counsel the other person to reach a symmetrical platform.  However it takes two to establish this.  A man interested in a woman can really not do much about the lack of reciprocation from her end.  He could acknowledge the depth of the channel and control his flow.  Bit in the end, for the relationship to become functional he will need to control his flow to become symmetrical with hers.  Else there will be this contact cycle of unmet expectations.  In order to avoid this, we should extend or hold ourselves back in a relationship till we are comfortable with the level of symmetry.

Putting it together

So we can now put these four critical aspects together to understand the dynamics of a relationship.  Between two people there is a pre-defined relationship channel of a certain depth and composition.  This defines the nature and potential of the relationship.  For every active relationship there is a flow, which is the nature of interactions.  While the channel is fixed, the flow varies based on several factors like social pressures, time available and interest.  They may change as the nature of a relationship evolves.  Example a boss and his secretary may marry.  While the channel depth remains the same, the flow now changes to some thing more personal and intimate; strangers meet and become best friends.  The flow has increased, nourished by association and mutual interest.  Similarly close friends may move to geographically distant places and the strong flow may dwindle to a trickle.  In establishing and evaluating a relationship one needs to be aware of these factors, the depth and the flow.
Finally, given the channel and flow, there is the need of symmetry in a vibrant relationship.  This means that the flow should be proportional from both ends of the channel.  Lack of symmetry is the single biggest cause of unhappiness in relationships.  If the relationship is asymmetrical, then one must consciously control the flow to levels that are commensurate to the oth3ers, provided of course the depth is there to accommodate this flow.  Relationships are dynamic and need to be constantly evaluated on the basis of these factors.  What is the nature and depth of the relationship channel with the person, is the flow full or does it need to be adjusted, is there to symmetry or does it need to established?
How do we use this in real life? The test of the pudding is in the eating.  All this should result in an improvement of our relationships with other people.  Pervasive, vibrant relationships with lead us to the holy grail of our very existence, the most elusive yet sought after aspect of our existence-happiness!!
As a first step we need to evaluate all our relationships, after having prioritized them in order of importance to us.  After having done this we need to examine them from these aspects:
1.  What is the composition of the Relationship channel? Are we actings based on our understanding of this composition? If not then we need to adjust.
2.  What is the channel depth? We always know this from our side and can make a good guess of what it is from the other side.  Are we fulling utilizing this depth or are we over flooding it?
3.  What is the flow: Is the relationship replete with frequent exchanges or simply exists on monotonous, repetitive exchanges.
4.  Is there symmetry: From our end and the other.  Is the depth-flow the same at both ends or is it unbalanced?
Based on this we can now act to improve our relationships.  If we acknowledge a relationship to be intrinsically shallow, then we must stop investing too much into it.  Conversely if there is potential or great depth, and we are inclined to pursue it, then we can safely increase the flow.  At all times we should monitor for symmetry.  If it is lacking then we either back off or consult with other person to see the possibility of him increasing the flow.  If symmetry is lacking we work to establish it or else we are setting our selves up fro disappointment.  The perfect relationship will have a symmetrical flow up to the maximum depth that the channel allows.  As all our relationships near perfection, our happiness quotient will automatically shoot up.

The Perfect relationship

It is not a coincidence that each and every one of us is searching for the perfect relationship – at all points in our lives.  The reason is that we have all experienced the “perfect relationship” at some point of time, and that experience has left a strong hankering for this perfect relationship.  Really speaking, nothing in the material world can be perfect.  We can only deal with grades of imperfection: the only perfect relationship is that which one has with Krishna.  This is a channel with infinite depth, flowing to the brim and spirit souls and at some point in the near or distant past we have experience this.  Due to various reasons that relationship has become asymmetrical from our end while we focused on other things.  But the sense perfect happiness in tasting this perfect relationships remains in us.  And like a musk deer we look for it in the wrong places, while all the while the Supreme Lord patiently waits for us to revive the flow from our end re-establish the symmetry.
So let us practice first on those around us while we meditate on the Supreme.  As we become comfortable with our relationships, as the distractions reduce and expenditure of useless energy and emotions dwindle – we focus more and more on the important things.  We focus on our relationship with Krishna.

Color has strong but subtle vibratory force in the shaping of human behaviour. Right from childhood man responds and reacts to the impact of colour. Bright colours fascinate children. Even primitives and tribal people, having colour appeal deck themselves in gay coloured clothes and beads. Psycho-analysis tries to study behaviour patterns of man sometimes with his bias towards certain colours. This appeal for colour has also been taken advantage by the modern interior decorators.

Astrology, a science to identify the celestial with the mundane things, in cognizance of this fact, had assigned gold for the Sun, silver for the Moon and so on purely on their colour similarities. Various colours have been ascribed to planets thus: Orange or Gold colour to Sun, Red for Mars, Dark Blue for Saturn, Green for Mercury, Yellow for Jupiter and so on.

Though a conclusive assessment of a person’s positive and negative qualities can not be made chiefly relying on his likes and dislikes to certain colours, yet its importance in total evaluation cannot be lightly dismissed. Realizing this aspect, the Astrologers had made frequent references to colours in their works. According to them, the wearing of red kumkum on the forehead by our Hindu women, symbolizes Mars who rules blood. A particular gem or stone is also assigned to a planet on the basis of similarity of colour. A person’s penchant towards a particular colour can be attributed to strong influences of a planet.

According to Astrology, the `colour-consciousness’ of a person can be fairly gauged by the sub-lord of Lagna, the disposition of Lagna lord and planets aspecting Lagna cusp. More than one planet reveals the modifying shades of a colour. To take an example: a Thula lagna native with sub-lord Saturn, lord of lagna posited in Kataka in the star of Saturn, would naturally prefer light blue colours since Venus in Kataka will surely dissolved the strong blue of Saturn. Now a question may arise. Will a person whose natural preference is light blue like that only hue all through life irrespective of change in circumstances and vagaries of taste? Logically the answer is that since the dasa lord is a prime factor during the period of its run, any amendment, alteration or modification in one’s choice may be traced to the dasa lord and its constellation lord. This gives a clue as to why a person who has been preferring cream and yellow colours during Jupiter dasa has slowly started liking darker shades with the advent of Saturn dasa.

Now I shall broadly study the characteristic of a few colours with reference to their respective planets:

RED (Mars): A vigorous and forceful colour depicting a man of action, adventure and boldness. More of brawn than brain. On the positive side, red-lovers are upright, bold and face the challenges of life with vigour. On the negative side, it makes them impulsive, vengeful and fool-hardy.

MAROON (Modifying shade of red): Represents strength with stamina. A colour of warmth and cooperative effort. Suffers from moody spells.

PINK (Modifying shade of red): A very popular colour especially for bedrooms, drawing rooms and lounges. Think Pink is a slogan of a Hollywood comedian. Pink shows love and willingness to help others. True pink is a delicate shade and people who respond to its vibration get easily hurt though they recover readily.

GREEN (MERCURY): Adaptable to circumstances. Both sentimental and sympathetic. Fond of companionship and inclined to take life easy. If beset by failure they try to wallow in self-sympathy and put the blame on others.

EMERALD (Modifying shade of Green): This strong green raises adaptability to the status of adventure. Emerald-lovers make the most of the opportunities coming in their way.

OLIVE (Modifying shade of green): A weak colour representing a person who shirks responsibilities and tries to find excuses. Lovers of this hue need lot of cajoling, encouragement and support to goad them into action.

BLUE (SATURN): True to the nature of its ruling planet, this hue indicates moods and sentimentality. On the positive side, blue gives some measure of devotion, a certain self-sufficiency and deep and far reaching thoughts.

NAVY BLUE (Modifying shade of blue): A dark shade of blue depicting faithfulness and constancy of purpose. Reliability trust and strength characterize this shade. (Probably that is why this colour is preferred by the Navy).

SKY BLUE: A lighter shade of blue. Lovers of sky-blue now and then descend to the depth of dejection and then rise up to the heights of cheerfulness. Even in company they some time feel lonely, and worrying over trivial seems to be a hobby with them.

VIOLET (Associated with VENUS): a SOOTHING AND HARMONIOUS COLOUR. Violent admirers often have taste towards literary, artistic and dramatic works. They are imaginative and creative. Turning fantastic into reality is their common objective. They develop a liking for mysticism. They influence others easily. On the negative side, violet-lovers assume a sort of self importance. Being blind to their own faults, they avoid criticism. They like to live in their own world of illusions and often draw self satisfaction out of it.

PURPLE (Modifying shade of Violet): High thinking, sense of superiority, Empty grandeur, are some of the traits of this royal shade.

WHITE (MOON): Often considered a symbol of purity. They are sincere and fair to others and understand others with sympathy. People who are fascinated by the vibrations of this colour often like to live an orderly life (whether they do it or not) and change their ideas to the changing times in order to keep in tune with life. On the negative side they tend to be over critical.

GRAY (Modifying colour of white): A deceptive and uncertain colour indicating persons who appear to be indifferent to circumstances but definitely a calculating and cool opportunist. Gray lovers exhibit caution often resulting in wise moves.

BLACK (RAHU & KETU): Highly formal and conventional Black vibration exhibits great understanding. Devoid of false prestige, it shows dynamism and purposefulness.

Having seen a panoramic view of the characteristics of colours in relation to their respective planets, I should like to submit here that an interesting horizon is awaiting fruitful researches in the field of colourology. The day is not far off when just like gem therapy, colour-therapy can be effectively developed to off-set certain mental ills and deficiencies.

Astrology, if suitable researches are made in this direction, can really offer useful suggestion based on planetary colours to infuse courage, cheer and confidence in our fellow being.
